Editing Metadata Overview

In NetX, attributes are custom metadata fields used to store and modify data related to assets. NetX provides highly flexible workflow options for entering and editing attributes at various stages of an asset's lifecycle. Attribute data can be edited in the following contexts throughout the application:

Uploading assets

Attribute values can be applied to assets during the upload action. These values will apply to all assets queued for a single upload action. For more information regarding uploading assets and applying attribute values, see uploading assets

Asset detail

Attribute values can be updated in asset detail view. For more information, see asset detail view.

Quick edit

The quick edit panel edits attribute values for all assets in a selection. For more information regarding quick edit, see quick edit panel.

Grid editor

Grid editor is a spreadsheet-like tool for editing attribute values across assets in a selection. Additional features such as the ability to clone and see existing values while editing make this tool ideal for granular editing and comparison. For more information, see attribute grid editor.

Find and replace

The find and replace tool searches for particular text query in a text or text area attribute, and replaces that value with a new one. For more information, see find and replace.

Data files

Attribute data can be edited in a CSV or XLSX file and uploaded to the application. For more information, see uploading attribute data.

Asset requests

External users can add attribute values while uploading assets via an asset request form. For more information, see uploading via asset requests

Embedded metadata sync

Embedded metadata can be imported directly into attribute values during asset upload. For more information regarding embedding attributes, see sync embedded metadata.

External Data Source

Data Source Sync is a tool for updating metadata from a data source such as a database or XML file. For more information see data source sync.

Via Automation

AutoTasks can automatically update specific attributes under certain conditions. To learn more, see AutoTasks.

Video clips

Video clips attributes are distinct from custom attributes and can be applied via the video clip editor. For more information regarding video clips, see video clips.

Attribute update precedence

To learn more about the order in which attribute updates are applied by the system, see attribute update precedence.
