The grid editor is a spreadsheet-like tool for editing or cloning custom attributes across multiple assets at once.
Accessing the grid editor
To access the grid editor, start with a selection of assets, then choose Edit attributes from the selection bar's action menu.
Sorting assets
To reorder assets in the grid editor, double-click on any of the column headers (e.g. Name) and the asset list will toggle between ordering assets by ascending or descending values for that attribute.
Editing attributes
In the grid
Single attributes can be updated independently by editing directly in a cell or using the upper input bar above the grid. Any attributes which have been edited during a grid editor session have a yellow cell, and all changes must be saved before they are applied to the assets in the selection.
Input bar
Selecting a single cell or column enables an input line above the grid where you can edit attribute data for the selected cell(s). Once a change has been made, you must use the Apply button before the change will appear in the cell; if you select a new cell without applying the changes, those changes will be lost. After you are finished editing the selected assets, click Save.
Clone
One asset's attributes may be applied to any number of other assets in your selection:
- Select the row for the asset with the attribute values you would like to clone.
- Use the Clone button; another grid will replace the original grid and a side pane will appear showing a preview of the asset you chose to clone as well as its attribute values.
- Select any assets from this second grid for which you would like the original asset's attribute values to apply. You can choose multiple rows using shift+click for adjacent rows, or ctrl+click to select multiple rows individually.
- Use the side pane to select or de-select affected attributes. Any attributes which are checked, once cloned, will replace any attribute values for the selected rows with that attribute value. Select all will select all available attributes, while Clear will clear all currently selected attributes. If a value is not checked, no replacement or editing will take place.
- Once your selections have been made, click Apply. Altered attributes will appear in yellow. Your changes still need to be saved from the main grid editor screen to be fully applied to your assets.
Bulk edit
Metadata lookups are supported while using the bulk editor.
Multiple assets and attributes can be edited at once by highlighting any number of rows and clicking the Edit button. This launches a sidebar attribute editor that allows you to edit attributes for the chosen assets. These values will replace any existing values, for every chosen asset once the changes have been applied and saved. Any existing values will display, though if you have selected more than one asset with disparate attribute values for an attribute field, the value will appear as < multiple values >. Attributes my be emptied of all values by using the empty button.
Appending values
Text, text area, multi-select, dataset tags, and vocabulary attribute type values can be appended to rather than replaced. When append is enabled for a particular attribute, any inputted value will be added to the end of any existing value without overwriting the original value.
- For text and text area attributes with common values, remove the existing values and then input the text you would like appended.
- Any values added to multi-select or other type of tag attribute will be added to any existing values across all selected assets without replacing any existing values.

Use plus button to the right of the input bar to enable append mode:

Resetting changes
Until you have used the Save button, no values edited during a grid editor session will be added to the selected assets – even if you have applied them with the Apply button in any context. To reset any changes which have occurred during your current session which have not been saved, you can either:
- To reset only select cells, highlight the cells or assets you would like to reset then click the Changed button; choose Reset selected.
- To reset all unsaved changes, click the Changed button and choose Reset all.
Selecting cells
There are several ways to make a selection of cells in grid editor. Selections can be used along with the Reset, Edit, and Clone buttons. After your selection has been made, all respective cells, rows or columns will be highlighted in dark blue.
- To select an entire column, click the header of a column.
- To select an entire row, click the leftmost number block for an asset.
- To select multiple, non-adjacent cells, hold your keyboard's command button (Mac) or Ctrl button (Windows) while clicking the cells you would like to add to the selection.
- To select adjacent cells, hold your keyboard's shift button while clicking the first cell on the edge of the desired area, then the last cell.
